Tip : Superscript and Subscript in Autocad

    A subscript or superscript is a number, figure, symbol, or indicator that appears smaller than the normal line of type and is set slightly below or above it.

    Subscripts appear at or below the baseline, while superscripts are above. Subscripts and superscripts are perhaps best known for their use in formulas, mathematical expressions, and descriptions of chemical compounds.

    To create superscript or subscript in Autocad use command STACK in Mtext editor (Text formatting window) normally it is a hidden command it will active only when the selected text contain caret ( ^ ) symbol.

Steps to make Superscript :

  • To make 100 raised to 5, place mtext 1005 and place caret symbol (Shift +6) after 5.
  • Select 5 and caret symbol (^).
  • Right click or click on the down facing arrow button in the text formatting window.
  • Select “STACK

  • Now text 5 will changed as Superscript.




Steps to make Subscript :

  • Place mtext 1005 and place caret symbol (Shift +6) before 5.
  • Select caret symbol (^) and 5.
  • Right click or click on the down facing arrow button in the text formatting window.
  • Select “STACK”.
  • Now text 5 will changed as Subscript.




Steps to make Superscript and Subscript together:

  • To make 100 divided by  2, place mtext 1002 and place caret symbol (Shift +6) between100 & 2.
  • Select 100, 2 and caret symbol (^).
  • Right click or click on the down facing arrow button in the text formatting window.
  • Select “STACK
  • Now 100 and 2 stacked with reduced text size
  • To change text size and style select again the stacked text and right click to select “STACK PROPERTIES



  • In stack Properties dialogue box can change the appearance of stacked text according to your convenience
  • In appearance tab select STYLE ½ Fraction (horizontal), Position Center and Text size to 100%

  • Now stacked text changed to 100/2
